Frequently Asked Questions
Bottles
Are the bottles insulated?
No, the bottles currently available are single-walled.
Will my water filter fit your bottle?
Our bottles mouth and threads have the same dimensions as standard wide-mouth Nalgene bottles. If your water filter fits on your Nalgene it should fit on our bottles as well.
Are your bottles lined with anything?
No, our bottles are made of 100% surgical grade stainless steel with no lining or coating of any type.
Will the bottle fit in my cup holder?
It depends on your cupholder. Below is a table listing the diameter of each bottle at it's widest point as well as it's diameter at the base.
Bottle: Standard Shorty Commuter Backpacker
Base Diameter: 3.7" 3.2" 2.6" 2.9"
Largest Diameter: 3.7" 3.6" 3.6" 3.6"
Will the bottle work as a thermos?
Our bottles are single-walled and not insulative. This means that the bottle will get very hot if you put hot liquid into it.
Can I cook in my bottle?
Yes! Just loosen the lid tether to remove it and the lid before you put the bottle on the stove or in the fire. Be very careful!! The bottle will get extremely hot. Make sure you let it cool before attempting to touch it or drink from it.
Why are your bottles made in China?
Our bottles are responsibly made in southern China. We have full confidence in their production. Not only did we hand pick the factory, but we visit the factory regularly to ensure that the highest standards for workers' safety and health are met. We have our products independently tested and we test them internally as well. All materials are approved of by the FDA and our products are certified by even the most rigorous standards.

Factory workers are paid a fair wage and treated with respect. Our factory in China is able to produce a consistent and reliable product at an affordable price. Unfortunately we haven't found an acceptible alternative in the states yet.

Our goal at Guyot Designs is to reduce our environmental impact whithout sacrificing the quality of our product or the safety of our consumers or employees. This requires looking at the entire material life cycle of the product from the recycling center, to you, and back to the recycling center. It's always an optimization problem and currently our best solution for stainless bottles requires they be manufactured in China. If you're aware of other economical alternatives, please drop us a line.
SplashGuard
My Original SplashGuard doesn't fit as well as it did when I first bought it, is there a way to fix it?
Yep. All you need to do is place the SplashGuard in hot water (hot tap water should be fine) for a few seconds. Then grab the sides of the SplashGuard and pull away from the center (like you're stretching Silly Putty). Don't pull too hard, there is a slight risk the plastic will crack. Let the SplashGuard cool (or run it under cool water) it should fit better now.
Your packaging said that the SplashGuard fits all wide-mouth bottles, but it doesn't fit my new bottle. What gives?
At the time we designed and printed out packaging the SplashGuard fit all the bottles we knew of. Since then more bottles have hit the market and some of them don't work with the SplashGuard. Once we use all of our existing packaging we will change the wording, but until then you can check the SplashGuard Sizing page. We do our best to keep up with all the bottles on the market, but if your bottle isn't on the list, please let us know.
